Love Death + Robots

My favorite animated short from Love, Death and Robots was Pop Squad. Pop Squad was written by Philip Gelatt and directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson. This short follows a cop who is in charge of preventing overpopulation and must hunt down children and remove them from society. We start to see the "human toll" that this occupation has on this cop and how it changed him and led to his ultimate character development. I really enjoyed the emotion and power behind the story-line and how it reflected a futuristic society. The population control, flying cars, rich society, and the immortality were all elements creating this very futuristic society throughout the short. The fact that the medical advancements led to immortality which caused this society to have to turn to population control and killing children is definitely something that resonated with me the most. This concept really felt like a twist on technology and technological advancements destroying the human population. I hope that instead of this short foreseeing the future that it is taken almost more as a warning for the future and the dangers of falling into a society in which immortality is the most important thing.

  1. Very good comments! it's what the singer says: Why would you sacrifice living forever having children? The mother says she has been alive 228 years, what else is thereto be seen? she does not want to be selfish, and wants to see the world through the child's eyes.

  2. Hey Allison! My favorite was, "Pop Squad", too. I also thought it was interesting that technology was such a nemesis instead of being positioned as the savior.
